Picasso on Richmond

Situated in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district, the objective, as per the client͛s directive, was to create a condominium residence that expressed a contemporary design, while simultaneously exuding a club-like vibe aimed at a younger target market. Interiors also had to complement the 39 storey tower͛s playful red outlined extruded white cube exterior.

As such, pops of crimson, fuchsia and tangerine accents are incorporated throughout, playing off the facade’s colour, and infusing the predominately neutral backgrounds with energy – from the concierge desk to private dining room chairs and through to the distinctive acrylic party room custom lighting fixtures.

The interior references the abstract, geometric architecture in multiple ways: the lobby’s square mirrored feature wall, the party room bar͛s boxy acrylic light fixtures, the dining room’s ‘climbing’ faceted light sconces and the clean lines of the outdoor integrated sectional sofas.

The abundant 9,600 sq. ft of 3rd and 10th level amenities provide an array of wellness and entertainment experiences including a 3rd level 3,400 sq. ft. professional gym, while the 10th level offers 6,200 sq. ft. of popular communal areas: a billiard room, a private dining room and a party room fashioned after an urban night club, that extends seamlessly outdoors.

To offer residents that nightlife feeling without leaving home, features such as bed-like loungers in party room and cool cabanas in the adjacent outdoor amenity, lend themselves to an engaging social scene. The adjacent outdoor amenity continues this party atmosphere with a sleek black steel double-sided fireplace, sexy cabanas, and hot tub.

Encountered with a narrow lobby (a tunnel that becomes another tunnel upon turning the corner), reflective materials such as the black-tinted mirrors lining the wall — that continue around the corner —were incorporated to create the illusion of space. The result is a lobby that translates as an art gallery, fostering guests and residents to relax and hang awhile – through bold artwork, stylish yet cozy chairs, and custom benching accompanied by small, glossy tables.

Large slabs of thin porcelain tile were used throughout the lobby, lending an upscale stone appearance with the durability of porcelain, and created a visual expanse. The elevator lobby, a whopping 20-feet high narrow cul-de-sac, is minimized and animated by the dangling LED acrylic chandelier and the abstract recessed light box made from printing and mounting random film.

As with many functional elements in the building, it became a conversation piece and transformed a typical condominium area into something special. Additional features in this condominium include the dramatic book-matched marble walls that wrap the billiards room and cleverly double as artwork.

As well, the ‘NanaWall’ (folding glass floor to ceiling window system) opens the 10th-floor party room onto the outdoor amenity, providing seamless access to indoor/outdoor entertainment. A fully equipped large professional gym on the 3rd level, designed with a colourful palette, continues the tower͛s youthful flavour, while facilitating residents͛ fitness needs all under one roof.
