Step inside Morah, a newly completed restaurant atop the world’s tallest hotel in Dubai—the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. Located on the 71st and 72nd floors, this 8,000-square-foot, 140-seat restaurant brings an Eastern Mediterranean flair to the Middle East. Originally launched as a successful brand in Toronto and Miami Beach, the owners tapped Toronto-based Navigate Design to create a new concept for the restaurant, one that caters to the Middle East market.

Guests arrive at the 72nd floor via a private elevator and step into an intimate peach-hued reception filled with lush greens and candle-lit lanterns. A pair of resin oil paintings sets the tone for what’s to come, with colors resonating the interior palette. Further inside, the dining room dramatically opens to an airy space with spectacular views. Guests will then discover a 35-foot, hand-carved bar, a sculptural masterpiece with wood scalloping detail and satin lacquer finish.

Suspended brass shelving hangs above and is filled with gold and glass decanters while old-world, back bar cabinetry lined with antiqued mirror anchors the bar area. A spiral staircase ties the dual-floor restaurant together as it unwinds around a cascading chandelier. While the design team set out to monopolize the 270-degree view of Dubai skyline, they faced some challenges working with the unique architecture, which resembles a Sheriff star with hard converging angles at all corners.

To balance such overpowering architecture, the team softened the space with a feminine design aesthetic. Soft seating of pastel leathers and crush velvets in hues of peach, salmon, mint-green and turquoise were used, with prominent curve detailing to lighten the otherwise rigid architecture. Antiqued mirrors, weathered planters, softly lit palm trees, eclectic lanterns and sea creatures in solid brass are placed throughout, creating a comfortable ambience.

Thoughtfully curated artwork and graphic design programs complement the soothing color palette and fresh interiors. Pieces include a mermaid mirror wall, 39 framed photographs of stunning jellyfish found in the two restroom corridors, and four, custom oval rugs with a repeating mermaid motif in a coral color over peach undertone.
