Project Description
Druide Informatique and its publishing subsidiary Éditions Druide wanted to renovate their downtown Montreal office to reflect their corporate identity and improve the quality of the work environment for their employees. Located in a mid-century modern building in Montreal’s former fur trade district, the open loft space provided our firm with an opportunity to design a modern office facility that took advantage of high ceilings and natural light from the generous fenestration. Our firm provided complete space planning, interior design services. The new and refurbished office features a showcase reception with a staircase connecting two floors, state-of-the-art conference and training facilities, fully-equipped employee kitchen, open concept work stations and private offices. The design is contemporary, with emphasis on natural and ambient lighting that creates a welcoming environment for clients and employees.

Objectives and Solutions
Working closely with the client, our firm developed preliminary designs and construction drawings that responded to the overall corporate identity and responded to themes of visibility, openness and transparency. Services included a new office layout, selection of lighting and furniture options as well as finishes and materials. Our firm’s design experts provided supervision during construction and all work was done in an occupied environment, which required excellent coordination between all stakeholders (customers, users, designers, entrepreneur, etc.). Employees were consulted during the design process in order to better understand their workplace needs and ensuring their well-being.

Natural light was introduced to all workspaces, favoring free flow areas next to the windows and using glazed walls for the closed offices, meeting rooms and kitchen. Thus, ensuring every space is afforded daylight. Lighting fixtures were chosen with care to limit glare on screens, and to create a pleasant ambiance. A dark wood and glass staircase links the two floors, facilitating exchanges between various departments, and continuing the design theme from one floor to another.

In order to showcase the variety and depth of the company’s achievements, great care was given to the display and appropriate lighting of Druide products. The displays are encased in rectangular frames recessed into the wood wall paneling in areas visited by clients such as the reception, the conference rooms and the circulation spaces.
